Review: Jessup Funds are awarded to students wishing to conduct studies at the postgraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral levels under the supervision or sponsorship of a member of the curatorial staff of the Academy. The Awards are not available for undergraduate study. Such studies may be in any specialty in which these curators have expertise. The McHenry Fund is restricted to botanists.

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation – Postdoctoral Research Fellowships
Application period: Continuous (Applicants should apply at least 10 months prior to their desired start date)
Duration: From 6 up to 24 months
Review: Fellowships enable researchers from all nationalities and disciplines to conduct research in Germany. Research projects are carried out in cooperation with academic hosts at research institutions. Applicants must have a Doctorate or Ph.D completed less than 4 years prior to the date of application, necessary language skills, academic publications according to international standarts, confirmation that research facilities in Germany are available.

Review: Argonne Fellowships support early-career postdoctoral scientific (Environmental Studies) or engineering research. Candidates must be within three years of having received the PhD at the time of application, or be in the process of completing their degree requirements

Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds – Dissertation Fellowship for Biomedical Research

Application deadline: 1 February, 1 June, 1 October of each year
Duration: 2 years with possible prolongation up to another 12 months
Review: The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) awards PhD fellowships to European citizens working in Europe or overseas, and to non-European citizens pursuing their PhD project in Europe. The PhD project must be experimental, in the field of basic biomedical research. Topics that are not covered: applied research, such as biotechnological and pharmaceutical development, drug delivery, drug screening/development, studies on the course of diseases or the treatment of symptoms (clinical studies). The applicant’s first university degree qualifying for a profession must not have been achieved more than 4 years ago.

Breakthrough Research Fellowship

Review: Breakthrough Research Fellowship is focused on ecomodern understanding of society and the environment. Applicants interested in the Research Fellowship should possess a Master’s degree at minimum and have a well-scoped research proposal. Fellows are invited to attend the Breakthrough Dialogue, which will take place June 21 through June 23, 2017.

Helen Hay Whitney Foundation – Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biomedical Sciences

Review: The fellowship supports early postdoctoral research training in all basic biomedical sciences for scientists who hold, or are in the final stages of obtaining a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree. Fellowships may be awarded to foreign citizens for research in laboratories in the US only.

Review: Population Council Fellowship provides financial support for young professionals in public health, social science, and biomedical research of any nationality that are concentrated on the development of cutting-edge products for contraception, HIV and AIDS prevention. Candidates for predoctoral biomedical fellowships must be engaged in MD, PhD, DVM, or equivalent graduate study. Candidates for postdoctoral biomedical fellowships must have successfully completed an advanced degree, MD, PhD, DVM, or equivalent.

Review: The Fellowship supports the early stage post-doctoral researchers from all over the world to work at UK research institutions in field of physical sciences, natural sciences, social sciences, and the humanities. Candidates must have PhD (or will have a PhD by the time the funding starts), no more than 7 years of active full time postdoctoral experience, work outside the UK and have a strong command of English.
